A University professor in England says there’s no need to learn grammar and spelling in schools these days.
Sugata Mitra, from Newcastle University, said that grammar and spelling skills were “very essential maybe 100 years ago but they are not right now.”
He believes the use of smartphones and computers, which pretty much correct our mistakes in real time, have turned grammar and spelling lessons into a waste of time.
Instead of the old ways of teaching this stuff, Mitra thinks students should be encouraged to express themselves in new ways – which they’re already doing because of all the computers and phones they use. (Inquisitr.com)
