Many people in Frederick County lack adequate health insurance, have financial difficulties, or do not yet have a good grasp of the English language and end up without basic health care – and too late they find themselves in the a hospital emergency room with acute conditions.
Since 2008 the Asian American Health Fair, now called the Frederick Community Health Fair, has served as a “first-line” screening for hundreds of people each year who come because they need basic diagnostic care to prevent acute events.
The 6th Annual Frederick Community Health Fair is taking place on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at the Frederick Indoor Sports Center, located at 1845 Brookfield Court, Frederick, MD, 21701. "It's a day that we have a lot of medical screenings. This year we have a couple of other things that the Indoor Sports Center is hosting, like family fitness. We really feel very excited to do this," said Elizabeth Chung, Executive Director, AACF.
AACF, the organizer of this annual event, is a non-profit community agency targeting the entire Frederick community with cultural and linguistic appropriate services to all. The health fair will include flu shots, glucose, cholesterol, Hepatitis-B screenings, oral & eye exams, self breast exam education and much more.
Representatives from the Door to Health Care of Healthy Howard, Inc. will be on hand to help uninsured or under insured persons to be enrolled in the new Maryland Health Connection program.
