The Christmas Shop at Marvin Chapel is now open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am till 2pm, the same hours as the Thrift Shop which remains open. The Christmas Shop is located on the lower level of the Sunday School Building which is attached to the church. The Thrift Shop is in a separate building next to the church parking lot. Many, many Christmas items and decorations have been donated to the church for sale. The church is located at 5101 Woodville Road, off of Rt. 144 between New Market and Mt. Airy. The National Museum of Civil War Medicine has the following upcoming events:
v Saturday, November 23rd – There will be a reception to view their newest traveling exhibit “The Emotional Toll of War”. Modern day soldiers have been diagnosed with PTSD and traumatic brain injury … this exhibit takes a look at the mindset of the Civil War soldier. Homesickness, melancholy, insanity and even suicide are just a few of the conditions that will be explored. The reception will be from 10:30am till noon and will feature a meet and greet with Dr. Greg Lande, the author of the exhibit. Light refreshments will also be served.

Hospice of Frederick County will hold a Family Caregiver Support Group on the second and fourth Fridays of each month. This is an informal discussion and compassionate support for those individuals dealing with caregiving issues. Frederick County Public Schools is holding online college exam preparation. The Frederick County Virtual School provides access to a comprehensive College Exam Preparation website for currently enrolled FCPS high school students. For one $30 registration fee, students have 24/7 access to preparation for ACT, SAT, AP and SAT 2 subject exams until June 30, 2014. The CEP is self-paced and self-monitored, with diagnostic performance feedback. The fall registration deadline is Wednesday, October 30th. The Kiwanis Club of Mount Airy is having a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 6am till 12pm in the Good Shepherd Hall of Calvary United Methodist Church. The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-12, and 5 and under are free. Please bring a canned or boxed food item to donate to the Mount Airy Net Food Pantry. The Kris Kringle Holiday Craft Show will be held at the Hagerstown Community College Athletic, Recreation and Community Center on Robinwood Drive. The show will feature over 260 quality juried crafters and will be held from 9am till 5pm on Saturday, and from 9am till 4pm on Sunday. Admission is $1 with all funds going to Hagerstown Day Nursery’s Scholarship Fund.
The 8th Annual Yuletide Artisan Market will be held in Burkittsville from 9am till 5pm on Saturday, and from noon till 4:30pm on Sunday. This will be a gathering of local craftspersons and artists featuring all manner of items. There will be live harp music and free admission and it will be held at the South Mountain Heritage Society on East Main Street.
