Frederick Police have released the identity of the officer involved in a shooting late Saturday night. He is Officer James Martin whose an 18-year veteran of the department, whose currently assigned to the Special Operations Division of the Drug Enforcement Unit.
On Saturday, Martin and other officers were investigating a suspicious situation in the 1200 block of West Patrick. During the course of their investigation, Officer Martin was hit by a vehicle. He fired his service weapon at the car, which fled the scene.
Other officers followed and stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Shookstown Road and Baughmans Lane. They noticed the driver, identified as Roy Turner, 45, of Frederick, had been shot in the upper left arm. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center and later transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
Officer Martin was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
On Monday, Turner was discharged from Shock Trauma. He's charged with possession of marijuana, possession of pot with intent to distribute, failure to stop at a vehicle accident involving bodily injury and attempting to elude police.
Police say their investigation into this incident is continuing, and additional charges could be filed.
