Harpers Ferry National Historical Park will have a special exhibit throughout February to celebrate Black History Month.
The exhibit is called 'The United States Colored Troops & The Spirit of Freedom' and will focus on African American troops who served in the military during the American Civil War. More than 200,000 soldiers were in the U.S. Colored troops and served from 1861 to 1865.
The park will host an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 2. For details and more on West Virginia's Martin Delany, the only black officer to receive the rank of major during the civil war, call the park at 304-535-6029.
