Officials will close lanes and change traffic patterns from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and Wednesday, Nov. 20, on westbound I-70 over the MD 63 Bridge, west of Hagerstown. These changes are part of an ongoing Maryland State Highway Administration bridge replacement project and crews will prepare to shift westbound traffic onto the newly constructed portion of the bridge.
A similar traffic shift on the eastbound bridge will be held in mid-December. Crews will then begin on the project's second phase, which includes demolishing and reconstructing the remaining portion of the bridges.
The $14 million project is part of Maryland State Highway Administration's bridge preservation and replacement program. Weather permitting, the project will be complete in 2014. The Highway Administration's contractor is C. William Hetzer, Inc., of Hagerstown.
