Have you noticed more potholes on area roads? It's due to the extreme freeze and thaw cycles, according to Valerie Burnette Edgar who is a spokesperson with Maryland State Highway Administration. Edgar said anyone can report a pothole by logging on to Maryland State Highway's website.
Once state highway officials receive the information, they will fix the pothole within a day, Edgar explains.
Potholes are created when water freezes and expands under roads. Then traffic increases the size of the potholes.
Be sure to keep an eye out for crews working on the roads from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and remember that they do not usually have concrete barriers to protect them.
