Family and friends are actively seeking a driver who hit an 18-year-old pedestrian in Taylorsville and fled the scene Saturday night.
Maryland State Police said Michael Hatfield, of Mt. Airy, is in critical condition. Family members tell WFMD News that Hatfield is severely injured with brain swelling, a shattered left leg and his right leg is broken in 4 places with horrific abrasions. The incident occurred at about 11:42 p.m. Saturday.
Maryland State Police received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Liberty Road and Ridge Road. A preliminary investigation showed that Hatfield was attempting to cross Liberty Road from the westbound side when an unidentified vehicle traveling west on Liberty Road struck him. A press release issued by Maryland State Police said the driver continued down the road. One witness told police the suspected vehicle was a compact four-door car, and a second witness described it as a blue or tan car, possibly a station wagon.
