The Salvation Army in Frederick is now accepting applications for Christmas assistance. "We had one full week a couple of weeks ago and we didn't see a big turn out," said Lt. Mike Michels.
An application session is being held Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and then again Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. "And then on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.," continued Lt. Michels.
The Salvation Army guarantees toys and clothing for children 12 and under. "We will see what we can do for the older kids. We don't make any guarantees on them, but the younger ones are covered," he said.
Applicants must bring in all required documents for approval. "If they can bring a photo I.D. and birth certificate for every adult in the household, and proof of their income, proof of their expenses, and for every child we need a birth certificate or a medical card," said Lt. Michels.
Please keep in mind if you do not have the required paperwork, your application cannot be taken. The Salvation Army is not able to print out or verify an income or expenses. The program is based on income vs. expenses.
The Salvation Army is located at 223 West 5th Street, Frederick, Md., 21701. For more information call 301-662-2311.
