The State Highway Administration closed the southbound lane of the MD 77 (Rocky Ridge Road) Bridge over Owens Branch, in Thurmont today, to make emergency roadway repairs. The lane will be closed 24 hours a day until 5 p.m. Thursday, August 22. Flaggers are alternating traffic on the northbound lane for the duration of the repair.
Crews were making routine repairs and noticed significant soil erosion and a void adjacent to the bridge. The three-day, 24 hour closure is required to make a permanent repair, which consists of backfilling and new concrete work.
Motorists should plan extra travel time during the road repair.
