Want to compete in the Boston Marathon — but are unlikely to get an invite, or can't even hack the 26.2 miles right now? There's an app for that — and it comes from the Boston Athletic Association. The Boston Marathon World Run app encourages people to set fitness goals they hope to accomplish by April 21 of this year — even if they can't be in the race itself. The race is already tough to get into. And this year's edition will have even more applicants because of the bombing last year that killed three people, injured more than 260 others — and stranded many runners on the course. The field has been expanded to 36,000 runners, 9,000 more than last year. But that still won't be anywhere near enough slots for everyone who wants to run.
